At Toller Secrets, we are careful with the breed.
New causes of genetically inheritable diseases are regularly being discovered. People all over the world are trying to see if they can identify an allele on the DNA strand that demonstrably causes this disease.
If this allele is known, a Toller can be tested for it.
Available tests are performed on our breeding animals at various laboratories around the world.
For example, at UC-Davis, OFA, and Laboklin.
There are also diseases that are hereditary but for which we cannot test. We cannot ignore these. If a disease appears in one of our puppies, we try to trace the possible cause using pedigree research and genetic information that we can find in the lines.
If it turns out to be present in one of our lines, we take appropriate measures in our breeding program to prevent recurrence.
Furthermore, the parent animals are tested for hip and elbow dysplasia through X-rays, which are evaluated by the Dutch Kennel Club, which assigns a value to them.
The test results can be seen for our parent dogs.
